When the Dallas and Fort Worth Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to host a booth at the Walk MS events in Dallas and Fort Worth, they thought it’d be great to offer an APCO to the event walkers.
“The team felt an APCO Air Purifier was the perfect product to auction off since this spring we have been promoting saving the air, and it helps destroy germs and contaminants from your air that can worsen allergies and respiratory problems,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck won the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when her bid came in highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first learned about the APCO several months before when she read an article discussing the importance of indoor air quality.
“I didn’t think much about it at the time because I didn’t understand its compatibility with practically any heating and air conditioning system, and thought it was another one of those “luxuries” that was way out of my budget. When they were auctioning it off at Walk MS event, people were talking about the importance of good indoor air quality for people suffering from MS and I immediately thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was 91 and had been living with COPD for over 20 years. He had been on oxygen at all times for the past four years.
“The allergens in his air bothered him even though I constantly bought the more expensive 3M Filtrate brand of home air filters. The filters just weren’t enough. He repeatedly caught pneumonia even though he had only left to go out over the past four years to visit his doctors.”
The pneumonia meant Kim’s father spent a minimum of two months in the hospital and rehabilitation facility. Just prior to the Walk MS event in North Dallas, Kim’s father had spent three weeks in the hospital and two days at the rehab facility recovering from two strings of pneumonia. After seeing her father endure so much, Kim said she was going to “roll the dice” and try to win the APCO, which would not only help her dad get some “clean” air, but the proceeds also went to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was elated when she found out she had bid the highest and planned on getting the APCO installed in her father’s home before he was discharged from the rehab facility. Regrettably, three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was taken home to hospice care and passed away peacefully four days later. The APCO arrived the following week.
Kim decided to have the APCO installed in her own house since her husband suffers from allergies. A few weeks after it was installed, she was cooking onions and noticed she couldn’t smell any odors once she the meal was over. She’s excited to see the long-term effects of the system.
We at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning extend our condolences to Kim and her family.
