What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Shreveport always tells you about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it really mean?

NATE is the acronym for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not all technicians in the industry are required to be certified by NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can work in the heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration industry without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to make sure we are sending the most qualified and trained technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these criteria, the NATE-certification tests validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these subjects.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only certain areas relevant to our technicians. NATE test candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
  • Oil Heating
  • Heat Pumps
  • Hydronics Gas (service only)
  • Hydronics Oil (service only)
