What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in Shreveport always tells you about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds comforting, what does it actually mean?

NATE stands for North American Technician Excellence and, as mentioned on their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed nearly 20 years ago and is supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be certified by NATE. The certification is voluntary and technicians can provide heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration services without being NATE-certified.

It’s important to Service Experts that our technicians are NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and skilled technicians into your home. To make sure experts meet these criteria, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The tests are knowledge-based exams that assess the technician’s knowledge of these criteria.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification and not refrigeration, there are only specific areas applicable to our technicians. NATE test candidates may obtain installation and/or service certification in one or more of the talent areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Air Distribution
  • Gas Heating
