Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. Not much is worse than laying down at night just to find out your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters monthly. If you don’t, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Try turning the temperature up a few degrees to get the furnace to kick on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem silly, but confirm the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 318-588-8163 and we’ll come out and get you taken care of as soon as possible.
