Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last of the weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Nothing is worse than laying down at night just to find out your furnace won’t turn on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself before calling Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters monthly. If you fail to do so, they can become clogged, blocking air flow and causing your furnace to malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but make sure the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you inspect all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 318-588-8163 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
